Are Specialty Dentures Right For Me?

DenturesDentures now come in all sizes and styles. Read on to learn more.
Are you in need of dentures? You may be unaware that there is now a variety of denture appliances to choose from at your Vancouver, Washington dentist. Each kind has been designed for different circumstances and lifestyles. Dr. Jill Markos walks you through the list of specialty dentures available today:
Complete dentures
These are the traditional dentures, which are made for people who are completely edentulous (without teeth). Full sets go on the top and/or bottom gum ridges and stay in place with a combination of suction and adhesive paste. They consist of porcelain crowns fitted into a gum-colored plastic tray and are designed to be taken out at night and after meals for cleaning.
Partial dentures
If some of the natural teeth remain, your Vancouver dentist may suggest partial dentures. They are smaller versions of the complete dentures, with the corresponding crowns attached to plastic bases, but they are held in place with metal attachments that anchor to the remaining teeth.

Implant-supported dentures

These start off looking like complete or partial dentures, but they attach to dental implants, which are titanium posts that are surgically placed under the gum line. With the dental implants supporting the dentures, they are very stable and natural-looking. They may be permanent restorations, which means they can't be taken out regularly, or they may have extra metal fixtures so the patient can attach and detach their dentures as needed.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each kind of denture appliance, including cost and convenience. Regardless of what you choose, you can be assured that it will be made specifically for you with the highest-quality materials available. Setting up a consultation with Dr. Jill Markos and her team at their Vancouver, WA office will help you determine which type of dentures best fits your situation.
